Breast implant capsular contracture occurs when scar tissue around the implant tightens, causing the breast to feel firm, distorted, or painful. Causes may include bacterial contamination, hematoma, implant rupture, or the body’s immune response. It’s graded by severity (Baker grades I–IV). Treatment depends on severity—mild cases may benefit from massage, ultrasound therapy, or medications. Severe cases often require surgical intervention, such as capsulectomy or implant replacement. Early detection and proper post-op care help reduce the risk and manage symptoms effectively.
