The estoc was a long, narrow thrusting sword developed in the late Middle Ages to counter plate armor. Instead of cutting, its stiff, tapered blade focused force into a sharp point, allowing precise thrusts into weak gaps like visors, armpits, and joints. Many estocs lacked edges entirely, maximizing rigidity and control against heavily armored opponents. It was often used two-handed, sometimes from horseback, emphasizing reach, accuracy, and battlefield adaptability overall.
