The storage compartment beneath an ottoman bed single occupies the entire footprint of the base from headboard to foot, side to side  at a depth of approximately 30 to 35cm beneath the slatted base panel. This is significantly more usable volume than under-bed drawer sets, which cover only part of the base footprint and require full drawer-depth clearance to operate. A single ottoman base at 204×96cm provides roughly 0.6 cubic metres of unobstructed storage enough for a full set of seasonal bedding, a suitcase, sports equipment, or bulky off-season clothing that does not fit elsewhere in the room. The full compartment is accessible in a single lift rather than requiring multiple drawer opens.
