Side-lift ottoman beds open from one of the long sides, requiring the user to stand beside the bed and lift the full length of the base upward. In a small bedroom where the long side of a single bed is close to a wall, this is impractical the bed cannot be fully opened. End-lift opens from the foot of the bed, requiring clearance only at the shorter end typically the zone facing the door or the base of a wardrobe where 60cm of clear floor is available. For a single bedroom where the bed occupies most of the room’s width with walls close on either side, end-lift is the only practical configuration. The DHS ottoman bed single uses end-lift gas pistons throughout the linen and velvet range.
