Australia’s 2025 student visa rules include several major changes to ensure only genuine students are granted visas, such as the requirement to submit a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) rather than just an offer letter when applying, ongoing emphasis on the Genuine Student test (replacing the old Genuine Temporary Entrant requirement), stricter financial and English language criteria, and limits on applying for a student visa while already in Australia on another temporary visa (offshore applications only from mid-2025). The government has also introduced a two-tier priority processing system to manage student intake and encourage enrolments in priority sectors, increased application fees and proof-of-funds requirements, and reinforced compliance monitoring to protect education quality and reduce misuse of student visas.
