Breast augmentation capsular contracture is a condition where scar tissue (capsule) around a breast implant thickens and tightens, causing the breast to harden, change shape, and sometimes become painful. Normally, the body forms a soft capsule around implants, but in capsular contracture, this capsule constricts around the implant. The exact causes aren’t fully understood but may include bacterial contamination, trauma, hematoma, or an inflammatory reaction. Symptoms range from mild firmness to severe pain and distortion of the breast shape.
