Joe Gilgun is an English actor known for his dynamic performances in television and film. He was born on March 9, 1984, in Chorley, Lancashire, England. From a young age, Joe showed a keen interest in acting and joined a local drama workshop, which helped shape his future in the entertainment industry. His acting career began at the age of 10 when he was cast as Jamie Armstrong in the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street (1994–1997). After a brief hiatus from acting to focus on his education and personal life, he returned to the screen and gained widespread recognition for his role as Woody in the 2006 film This Is England, directed by Shane Meadows. He reprised the role in the subsequent TV spin-offs This Is England ’86, This Is England ’88, and This Is England ’90. Joe further cemented his status as a talented actor with his portrayal of Rudy Wade in the popular sci-fi series Misfits (2011–2013). He later took on the role of Cassidy, an Irish vampire, in AMC’s hit series Preacher (2016–2019), which was based on the comic book series of the same name. In 2019, he co-created and starred in the British comedy-drama Brassic, where he plays the lead character, Vinnie O’Neill. The show, inspired by his own experiences growing up in northern England, has been praised for its humor, raw storytelling, and emotional depth. Despite his success, Joe has been open about his struggles with mental health, particularly bipolar disorder, and has used his platform to raise awareness about mental health issues. His down-to-earth personality and ability to bring authenticity to his roles have made him a beloved figure in the entertainment industry.
