In September 2007, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced they were starting a new cricket tournament called the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was set to begin in 2008 and would feature fast-paced Twenty20 matches. They planned to have teams representing eight different cities across India, one of which was Bangalore.
