According to Gradstar Global, the United States doesn’t offer a traditional post-study work visa for international students. Instead, graduates on an F-1 student visa can gain work experience through Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows them to work in a job related to their field of study for up to 12 months after completing their degree. Students in STEM programs can apply for a 24-month extension, giving them up to three years of work authorization in total. During this time, many graduates look for employers willing to sponsor them for an H-1B work visa, which can help them continue their career in the U.S. after their OPT period ends.
