The tailbone, or coccyx, is located at the very bottom of your spine. When it hurts, even simple movements like lying down, sitting, or getting into bed can be very painful. There are several ways you might injure or feel pain in your tailbone: • Falling • Sitting for long periods • Referred pain from other areas • Pregnancy • Childbirth Falling is the most common cause of tailbone pain, especially when slipping on ice. Usually, a fall results in sharp pain that gets better over time. But sometimes, it can cause a more serious injury, like a coccyx fracture, that takes longer to heal. In most cases a tailbone adjustment through chiropractic treatment can be helpful.
